Meet Henry
Henry Bohnert rescues horses. He cares for them at a horse farm on his daughter's property – horses that otherwise would be put to death, with no other options of care for them.
In a sense, Summa Health rescued Henry, too. On of all days, his wedding day.
Henry and his fiancée Joan were getting ready to celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives. They were at the wedding venue, rearranging some glasses prior to the ceremony, when Joan saw Hank lean up against the wall – and fall. He was in full cardiac arrest.
Fortunately, Joan’s daughter – a nurse – performed CPR on Henry immediately. When the rescue squad arrived, they asked Joan what hospital she wanted Henry transported to. For Joan, there was only one option. “Take him to Summa Health.”
There, the Summa Health team worked to revive Henry for over an hour. “They wouldn’t give up,” she recalls. “They kept going. And they were able to bring him back.”
A Bedside Wedding
Ten days later, Henry and Joan were finally married. This time in a Summa Health hospital room decorated with balloons by Henry’s nurses. They even brought the couple a piece of cake to share at the "reception."
Today, Henry is still recovering, but doing much better. He drives. He visits the horse farm. Joan calls him a miracle.
