Weight Loss Surgery — 3 Easy Steps

Have you been struggling with your weight for much of your life? Summa’s Weight Management Institute wants to help you make a change. Our program’s comprehensive, team-based approach to weight loss surgery focuses on your individual needs. Simply follow our easy 3-step process to get started.

Step 1: Contact the New Patient Team

We welcome your interest in our Surgical Weight Loss Management program. To contact us, please call 330.375.6554.

During this phone conversation, we will:

  • Provide more details about our program
  • Answer any questions you may have
  • Collect health and insurance information
  • Set you up for viewing of an informational video or introductory visit and help you submit new patient intake forms

We strongly encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to this call to ask if you have the weight loss surgery benefit on your plan. If you do not, we have other options for weight loss, so we still encourage you to call.

Step 2: Complete Surgical Evaluation

During this visit you will meet one-on-one with the surgeon for an evaluation. This is your opportunity to ask clinical questions. Our surgeons are board certified in general surgery and fellowship trained in advanced laparoscopic and weight loss surgery. You also will meet with one of our financial counselors to address your insurance and out-of-pocket expense questions.

Step 3: Start Program

Once you have completed the initial evaluation and have been cleared by your surgeon to proceed with the program and start pre-operative testing:

  • Your surgeon, based upon your medical history and the requirements of your insurance company, will set up a plan of assessments and tests needed to help prepare you for surgery.
  • Your surgeon will refer you for monthly physician supervised diet and exercise visits. The number of these visits is often set by your insurance.
