The Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute is a nationally recognized heart care program dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered cardiovascular care for a healthier community. In 2021, IBM Watson Health recognized our Akron Campus as a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital. Learn more about this and other distinctions of excellence for our heart and vascular team here.
Established to unite all healthcare professionals engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease under a single entity, the Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute maintains a highly collaborative approach – one that includes nearly 50 cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and vascular specialists. In fact, Summa Health has the largest multidisciplinary cardiovascular medicine team in the tri-county region.
The Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute is always innovating and growing. In fact, the Summa Health Barberton Campus – which has always had a strong cardiac program – recently increased its capabilities and competencies with the opening of the new High-Intensity Cardiac Unit (HICU). This specialized unit concentrates on round-the-clock care for complex heart failure patients, patients with acute coronary syndromes and 24/7 cardiac emergencies. Its staff includes nurses motivated to improve cardiovascular care delivery in an environment focused on the education of the patient and family.
Appointments are available at nearly a dozen convenient office locations in Summit, Medina and Portage Counties. With so many locations, our cardiac patients can expect to receive the right care at the right time – no matter where they choose to receive it within the Summa Health System.
